Ann Marie provides counselling support to people primarily through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She also employs clinical hypnosis, EMDR and Prolonged Exposure therapy when it is appropriate. The issues she addresses include: Anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), self-esteem, anger, aggression, pornography addiction. She also works with Family Law clients to provide Practice Note 7 therapeutic interventions.

Ann Marie offers a variety of assessment services including:

  • General psychological assessments: This type of assessment involves the gathering and analysis of relevant developmental, personality, medical, relationship and contextual factors in order to guide interventions. The assessment supports people in determining what their treatment goals might be and the best methods for effecting change so that an individual might interact more effectively with family, peers and others in his or her social environment.
  • Risk assessments regarding potential for future sexual offending, violence or intimate partner violence: This specialized form of assessment is designed to identify both the static (unchanging) and dynamic (changeable) risk factors that contribute to the likelihood that an individual will commit another act of violence or sexual abuse. Information is obtained from clinical interviews, review of formal records, psychological testing and discussions with collateral contacts. A formal report is prepared and recommendations regarding risk management are included.
  • Parenting Assessments: This type of assessment is usually requested to support third parties in decision making. Ann Marie works with Alberta Children’s Services and community agencies engaged in Collaborative Service Delivery to provide evidenced-based assessments that support the safety of children in need of protection, and where possible, the reunification of families.
  • Practice Note & Parent Psychological Evaluations: This is a Court ordered assessments of one parent designed to assess risk factors present that a parent might not adequately meet the needs of a child and what supports might be needed to improve that parent’s ability to meet their child’s needs. (Ann Marie does not do Voice of the Child assessment reports).

All assessments will include clinical interviews and typically some form of psychological testing. The tests used will depend on the goals of the assessment.  Collateral and/or background information is also integrated into the assessment report.

Ann Marie works with organizations as a consultant regarding clinical practice, program development and case conceptualization. She also develops and provides workshops and presentations on a variety of topics.
