Ann Marie Dewhurst, PhD, Registered Psychologist (AB & NT)
Ann Marie has been a Registered Psychologist in Alberta since 1994 and in the Northwest Territories since 2005. She works with adults and older adolescents and provides counselling, forensic counselling, and formal assessments. Her general counselling work helps individuals who are dealing with issues like depression, anxiety, panic, trauma, etc. She uses a variety of strategies with clients including cognitive-behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, hypnosis and EMDR.
Ann Marie provides workshops about a variety of psychological and forensic issues. She teaches undergraduate courses at Concordia University College and graduate courses with the Graduate Centre for Applied Psychology (GCAP) at Athabasca University.
Karen M. Nielsen, PhD (Ed), Registered Clinical Social Worker
Karen is a registered clinical social worker with over 30 years experience in working with families and couples experiencing relationship problems. She also enjoys working with children. In her work with children, Karen uses therapeutic art and play.
Karen has particular expertise in working with people who have experienced trauma. She is a member of both the National Center for Crisis Management and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Her Ph.D. research was a qualitative study of the coping experience of women who had left abusive relationships. Her current research is both a quantitative and qualitative study on the effectiveness of intrapersonal violence related group work.
Karen is an international author and presenter. She also tutors and teaches in at Athabasca University and Concordia University College, Edmonton.
